Philadelphia, PA -- The first female African Union (AU) Mission Permanent Representative to the
United States; Ambassador Amina Salum Ali was on an official
visit to the City of Philadelphia last week. A reception was held in her
honour by the city and those present included; Mr. Stanley Straughter
(Chairman On Commission Of African & Carribean Affairs), Councilwoman Jannie
Blackwell, Mayor John F. Street who was represented by his eldest son;
Sharif Street, other city officials and African/Caribbean community leaders.
Ambassador Ali who is originally from Tanzania was officially welcomed by
the African/Caribbean community leaders. Among them were; influential
Ghanaian/Podiatrist; Dr. Samuel Quartey aka Nii Kwate Quartey 1, (very well
known and well connected with city officials) and Nii Ayitey, Presidential
Aide, Office of the President, Castle, Osu.
In welcoming the Ambassador, Nii Ayitey Boafo took the opportunity to invite
all present to invest in Ghana.
Ambassador Ali praised Mr. Straughter and Councilwoman Blackwell for their
tremendous work on African and Carribean Affairs in the City of
Philadelphia. She is scheduled to travel to Ghana next month.
