The Asante Akyem North District Police Commander, ASP Samuel Azugu, has been relieved of his position after he was accused of "inciting" fulani herdsmen against local farmers in the area.
Indigenes have pointed accusing gingers on ASP Samuel Azugu after following deadly clashes between some Fulani herdsmen and local farmers in the area.
According to an Adomonline.com report, the commander was fired for the worsening security crisis involving nomadic herders and some indigenes of the district.
The Member of Parliament for Asante Akyem North, Andy Appiah-Kubi in a statement, accused the ASP Azuga of being complicit in the security crisis that claimed eight lives in six days last October.
“The District Commander is inciting the herdsmen against our people. We have evidence that the herdsmen bring him beef. The commander also has cattle which the herdsmen are rearing for him,” the MP said.
He also disclosed that the posture of ASP Azugu is so appalling that, “even dogs here in Agogo don’t want to work with him. He didn’t help us, he could not help us."
The lawmaker added that the chiefs and the entire people of Asante Akyem have completely lost confidence in the commander, therefore they are satisfied with his transfer.
“Even dogs here in Agogo don’t want to work with him. He didn’t help us. He could not help us,” the MP said.
DSP Joe Appiah is reported to been asked to replaced ASP Azugu after he was accused of compromising his position
The transfer of the Agogo District Commander is the second in less than two years after the former District Commander, ASP Asamoah Agyekum, who was accused of siding with the herdsmen was fired.
Some reports say over 65 natives of Agogo and settler farmers have been killed with many others injured over the last 15 years.
In October last year, the crisis claimed eight lives in six days, prompting security concern.
Clashes between nomads and indigenous farmers has been a major problem for years and it got escalated late year.
