Agona Swedru (Central Region), 29, Sept. The Agona District Assembly will soon demolish all illegal structures in the area. Mr Samuel Adu-Yeboah, the District Chief Executive, announced this at a one-day seminar for district statutory planning committee members at Agona Swedru. This, he said, will need the adequate co-operation and support of the chiefs and people of the district. He said the seminar was meant to serve as a capacity-building programme to enhance and promote the work of the committee to enable it to meet the challenges ahead. Mr Adu-Yeboah said the establishment of the district statutory planning committee by the Ministry of Local Government and Social Welfare was aimed at injecting discipline into estate development in the villages and towns. He charged the committee to come out with strategies and action programmes to help address the haphazard development of estates. They should ensure that all structures, both permanent and temporary, are sited in conformity with proper layouts and building regulations. Mr Frank Bosomtwi, Central Regional Director of Town and Country Planning Department, urged estate developers to obtain permits and plans for their structures to enhance proper sanitation.
