Agona Nsaba, C/R, March 7, GNA - The Nsaba Science Foundation, a Non Governmental Organisation has established a resource centre for girls in the area to acquire knowledge on Information Technology IT. Professor Kojo Fosu, Former Dean of the College of Art, Kwame Nkurmah University of Science and Technology and a Director of the Centre said about 40 girls in and around Nsaba in both basic and secondary school had been enrolled.
He said it also organises extra classes in science, mathematics and English Language for girls to compliment their classroom lessons. Prof Fosu pointed out that the centre was established to encourage girls to finish school and to further their studies.
He said the centre with eight computers had plans to purchase 40 more so that the enrolment could be increased.
The Director of the Centre said the first anniversary of the NGO would be marked to raise funds to renovate new premises allocated by Presbyterian Church of Ghana.
Prof Fosu said two University student volunteers from Canada and Norway would be spending six months with two resource persons to teach the girls.
He appealed to the Agona District Assembly and Ghana Education Service and well citizens of the area to assist the centre with computers and accessories.
Ms Ketle Bosch one of the volunteers expressed happiness about the fast pace way the girls were learning the computer. She appealed to the Directors to acquire a new bigger premise to increase enrolment.
