Agona West Municipal Assembly approves Oppong nomination as MCE

The Agona West Municipal Assembly on Monday approved the nomination of Mr Samuel Oppong, as new the Municipal Chief Executive for the area.

Mr. Oppong, who was the Presiding Member of the Assembly, polled 40 votes out of 44 votes cast by the Assembly.

The election was supervised by Mr. Serebour Quaicoe, Deputy Central Regional Director of the Electoral Commission (EC) and Mr. Kwame Amoah, Agona West Municipal Electoral Officer.

Madam Ama Benyiwa Doe, Central Regional Minister said the “persistent changing of Municipal Chief Executives of Agona West was a strategic plan to help government to achieve its objectives”.

She called on the supporters of the party to cooperate and rally behind Mr. Oppong to enable him work to improve living conditions of the people.

Mr. Oppong pledged to operate an open door administration that could help move the Municipality forward.

He called on the supporters to bury their political differences so that the party could recapture the parliamentary seat from New Patriotic Party (NPP) in December.

Nana Kweku Essuman II, Tufuhene of Swedru Babianiha, appealed to the government to build more bridges and roads to ease traffic congestion at Agona Swedru.

Mr. Haruna Sani, Head teacher of Swedru Islamic Junior High School, was elected as the new Presiding Member (PM) of the Assembly, polling 33 votes against eight votes whiles two absented.

Mr. Oppong and Mr. Sani were sworn in by Mr. Nathaniel K. Osam, Agona Swedru Circuit Court Judge.**
