Agonaman Association In U.S.A Raises $10,000.00 To Agona District Hospital

Agonaman Association in North America on September 5 and 6, 2009 held its 10th annual congress in East Hartford, Connecticut. On September 5, 2009, Saturday night, the association held its annual mammoth dinner and fund raising and raised $10,000.00 to furnish their Hospital Theater Project at Agona District Hospital under the joint chairmanship of Mr. Alex Ntiamoah, a native of Asante Mampong and Mr. Okuoba Gyasi native of Agona Asante.

Election of officers for 2009 – 2011 was held on the next day after discussion of 2009/2010 projects. The association has projected to complete the hospital theater by 2010 at the cost US$35,000.

Mr. Samuel Adu (TX) who has been the President for the past year was re- elected as the President and Mr. Solomon Amoah (NY) who has been a secretary for eight years took the Vice President’s seat. Mr. Samuel Owusu-Amofah (CT) was elected the Executive Secretary, Philip Adu Acheampong (OH) being Associate Secretary in charge of technology and Juliet Asafo Agyei (CT) assistant secretary. Mr. Kwasi Asamoah Afriyie (CT) took the Financial Secretary position and Mr. Joseph Akenten (MA) as Assistant. Mr. Kwame Owusu Ansah (MA) has taken the Organizing Secretary and Oheneba Adom Gyasi (NY) being his assistant.

Mr. John Amoah (R.I), Nana Ama (NY), Mr. Okuoba Gyasi(NY) and Mr. Seth Oppong Nyamekye (VA) were elected as trustees to the association.

The underlisted names were elected as zonal coordinators: Abdul Azziz Umar – Philadelphia, Philip Adu Acheampong – Ohio/Illinois, Joseph Oti Akenten – Massachusetts /Rhode Island, Samuel Owusu-Amofah – Connecticut, Oheneba Adom Gyasi – New York State and Mr. Samuel Adu – Texas and Southern Sector.

The association which was established ten years ago consist of five out of seven towns that constitute the Agona Traditional area in the Ashanti region: Agona Asante, Afamanaso, Bedomase, Bipoa and Akrofonso, meet every year to raise funds to assist Agona District to improve the health, education and provide good drinking water which are the basic requirements for healthy leaving.

Through monthly dues and voluntary contribution the association is able to put up a hospital theater and has supported the district assembly to elevate the clinic to a District Hospital status. Forty-foot container filled with hospital materials, textbooks, and computers was shipped to our motherland. The learning materials were donated to the two Senior High schools in the district whilst the hospital materials were donated to the hospital.

Mr. /Mrs. John Amoah were the Guests of Honor for this year’s congress for their immense contribution to the up grow of the association.
