"Agyapong, Afoko won’t sit idle for NDC to win 2016"

Former General Secretary of the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP), Kwadwo Owusu Afriyie a.k.a Sir John in politics, has defused a write-up by the current edition of the AFRICAWATCH magazine, published by the Daily Dispatch that NPP’s Agenda 2020 group is likely to sabotage Nana Addo.

AFRICAWATCH concluded on this factor “Agenda 2020 assumes that its adherents will sit back instead of helping Akufo-Addo’s campaign. But more dangerously, they could sabotage him.”

On the issue of a division in the NPP leadership, the magazine alleges that the Party Chairman, Mr. Paul Afoko and the General Secretary, Mr. Kwabena Agyapong, are perceived to be apathetic about Nana Akufo-Addo’s chances of winning.

Reacting to the article, Sir John on Okay Fm said there is no such agenda 2020 in NPP as the two accused persons, Kwabena Agyapong and Paul Afoko are rather eager to wrestle power for NPP in 2016 in their tenure as executive heads of the party.

He maintained it is not possible for the Party Chairman and the General Secretary to sabotage Nana Akufo-Addo in the 2016 elections because they know why they are in office; insisting “Kwabena Agyapong and Paul Afoko will not sit idle for NDC to retain power in 2016 because if they want us to lose the elections, they would not have stood for the national executive positions, but would have stayed aside to work against NPP.”

To him, the alleged saboteurs in NPP will also suffer the same consequences if their evil agenda is carried out, daring that nobody can plot evil to see NPP destroyed as the party’s existence is largely dependent on the over 5 million sympathizers and supporters and not the few card-bearing members who are not more than 250 thousand.

He asserted that the opposition NPP belongs to Ghanaians and there is nobody to sabotage Nana Addo from becoming a President since Ghanaians are determined to make him lead the country to correct all the wrongs done by the Mahama-led administration.

“There can never be Agenda 2020 in NPP because everybody understands that if Nana Addo is sabotaged, others too will be affected….Nobody can stay in NPP and perpetuate evil because the consequences will fall back on them; our dreams are that Nana Addo will be crown President in 2016 and I have the belief that Ghanaians will make him President and not only NPP,” he charged.

Sir John was however certain that Kwabena Agyapong, the General Secretary and Paul Afoko, the National Chairman both determined to win the 2016 elections in order to see their names written in the party’s history for securing power for the party in 2016 elections.
