After failing to establish a scandal in the Merchant Bank loan involving a brother of President John Mahama, elements of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) have moved the party’s desperation for power to a crescendo 18 days to the presidential and parliamentary elections.
The NPP activists were seen holding a large number of the malicious materials about the President and his junior brother, Ibrahim Mahama, Executive Director of Engineers and Planners (E&P), a mining engineering firm, on the Ghana Institute of Management and Public Administration (GIMPA) campus.
The programme was the inauguration of the GIMPA branch of Tertiary Education Students Confederacy (TESCON) in Accra, last week, Wednesday.
They include Sammy Awuku, a Deputy Communication Director, Kofi Jumah, outgoing Member of Parliament for Asokwa Constituency, Lawyer Kwame Gyan, Kwabena Agyepong, former Press Secretary to ex-President John Agyekum Kufour and Omari Wadie former NPP Constituency Chairman for Ayawaso West Wougon.
Also there was the “quick tempered” the NPP’s parliamentary candidate for Ayawaso West Wuogon Constituency and ex-Chief Executive Officer of Food and Drugs Board (FDB), Emmanuel Kyeremanteng Agyarko, who lost control of his manners publicly on Metro TV, last week, when he was questioned as to whether he had three wives.
One of the flyers captioned ‘’corruption’’ claimed “John Mahama’s brother borrowed GH¢57 million and helped bankrupt Merchant Bank…he bought a plane” and “left us with bad roads”. The inscriptions had under them pictures of an aircraft and deplorable community road, in an area not stated on the flyer.
The same flyer also had pictures of Messrs Ato Ahwoi, Kofi Awoonor, Kojo Tsikata and Kofi Totobi Quakyi with Same Old Evil Dwarfs” inscribed above their heads. Below their pictures is another inscription “Judgment Debts” which had Woyome: GH¢51.8 million, Waterville: 35 million Euros, CP: 94 million pounds sterling, Rockshell: US$35 million and NDC billboards GH¢100 million.
In another leaflet designed to look like the GH¢50, captioned: “NDC where is the money? Listed items, the NPP claims are the following facts.
“Ghana is dying slowly with debts. We owed GH¢9 billion by 2008. Now we owe GH¢30 billion under NDC!
“John Mahama and the NDC have borrowed $14 billion dollars since 2009 –more money than all previous governments did.
“So where is the money? John Mahama and his NDC government have wasted our money in…… The payment of bogus judgment debts to their friends …Mr. Woyome – GH¢51.8 million, Waterville- 35 million Euros, Construction Pioneers (CP) – 94 million Pounds sterling, Rockshell – 35 million Euros, Africa Automobile – $ 1.5 billion”.
“Mahama paid $88 million of our money for an airplane which worth $40 million. He spent $ 17 million on an airplane garage!! He spent $1 million on an airplane staircase!! These claim, also had pictures of an aircraft hanger and an airplane stairs beneath them.
TESCON is the students’ wing of the NPP, from which the likes of Sammy Awuku, Steve Amoah, John Boadu, Anthony Karbo and many of the next generation of NPP leaders who appear, very hotheaded, were produced.
Recently, a certain Kofi Amoako was severely beaten by the some supporters of the ruling party and dragged to the Airport Police Station in Accra. This was after he was spotted distributing the flyers at the Tetteh Quashie Roundabout.
Ironically, it took the intervention of Ibrahim Mahama and Presidential staffer, Baffoe Bonnie, to set him free, angering the NDC supporters in the process.
Leading NPP members who besieged the Airport Police Station demanding for Amoako’s immediate release included the ex-President’s Press Secretary, Mr. Agyepong, Mike Oquaye Jnr. and Mr. Agyarko among others.
