Ahantaman SHS calls on government to create conducive environment for teaching and learning

The Headmistress of the Ahantaman Girls Senior High School of the Western Region, Mrs. Mercy Ocloo has called on the government to create conducive teaching and learning environment for an excellent education that can shape and develop the lives of young girls into educated, confident and enterprising women.

Speaking at the 70th Anniversary of the school on the theme ‘’Education; A Tool for empowering the Girl-Child to cope with the challenges of the fast-growing world’’.

Mrs. Ocloo said the school has an aim to train up girls to become responsible adults and equip them with the needed tools to take challenging roles in society, adding that, the school also offers its students the room to unearth their talents and grow them into potentials.

Touching on some success of the school, she said the school was adjudged the best Science SHS in the Region and has qualified for the National Science and Maths Quiz.

Mrs. Ocloo further commended the Central Government, GES, TICO, MTN and the PTA for their immense contributions towards the school infrastructural development and called on the government to come to their aid since there is more to be done.

The Guest speaker for the occasion, Professor Joseph Ghartey Ampiah, who is the Vice Chancellor of the University of Cape Coast, said the education of girls goes beyond getting them in school but also ensuring that they learn and feel safe while in school to effectively and efficiently face the world after school.

He commended the GES and some private organizations for their contribution towards girl-child education in the country.
