Akate Farms makes huge donation to flood victims

Wa, Nov. 5, GNA - Akate Farms and Trading Company Limited based in Kumasi on Monday donated 80 bags of maize, 50 bags of rice, nine cans of cooking oil, 20 cartons of key soap, six boxes of Omo and six bundles of used clothes flood victims of the Upper West Region. The donation is the biggest so far received by National Disaster Management Organisation from an individual coming from the region. Presenting the items to the Deputy Upper West Regional Minister, Madam Winifred Asibi Dy-Yakah, the Managing Director of the Akate Farms, Alhaji Abdul Salami who hails from Bawiesibelle in the Sissala East District, said he visited home during the floods and saw the destruction.

Alhaji Salami thanked the government, the international community and non-governmental organisations for their interventions and pleaded with well meaning individuals from the region to donate to the victims to complement government efforts. "It will be inhuman and unjust for some of us who are in positions to help to refuse but rather concentrate on our family members alone", he said.

Madam Dy-Yakah thanked Akate Farms for the assistance and appealed to transport owners to help the district assemblies with means of transport to cart the items to the communities. She called on people from the region to show concern for the flood victims and not to leave everything to the government and other benevolent organisations.

Meanwhile, relief items are piled up at district assembly's halls and the assemblies are complaining they lack transport and funds to buy petrol to enable them cart the items to the victims.
