Akatsi District marks Best Teacher Award

Akatsi (V/R) Oct. 22, GNA- Mr. Nicholas Negble, the District Chief Executive for Akatsi, has commended teachers for their commitment towards the promotion of education to enhance efforts towards national development and progress.

He charged teachers to protect the image of their profession by not engaging in anti-social acts.

Mr. Negble was speaking in a speech read on his behalf, at the District Best Teacher Award celebration on the theme: " Quality Teachers for Quality Education: Recruitment and Retention of Teachers."

Mr. David Kpenu, the District Chairman of the Ghana National Association of Teachers, charged the Ghana Education Service to initiate innovative means of implementing provisions of the 'Death Benefit' in the Condition of Service of Teachers.

It states that, " On the death of an employee, the Service shall provide a coffin or a stated amount of one million cedis in lieu of coffin and specific cartons of beer, schnapps and crates of soft drinks".

In a speech read on her behalf, Ms. Cecilia Pornary, the District Director of Education, urged teachers show active interest in the Best Teacher Award scheme to make it competitive.
