The Electoral Commission (EC) on Thursday fixed Tuesday February 5 and Tuesday February 26 as days for holding the parliamentary by-elections in the Akatsi South and Buem constituencies respectively.
Separate statements signed by Mr Kwadwo Sarfo-Kantanka, EC Deputy Chairman in Charge of Operations on Thursday said the by-election follows the appointment of the MP for Akatsi South, Mr Edward Doe Adjaho, , as Speaker of Parliament and the demise of the MP for Buem, Mr. Henry Ford Kamel.
The statement said “In accordance with Article 112(5) of the Constitution as amended by section 3 of Act 527, the EC will hold a by-election in the [Akatsi South] constituency on Tuesday the 5th day of February, 2013.
“The Commission will take nominations for the said by-election on Monday 21stand Tuesday 22nd January, 2013, at the district office of the Commission at Akatsi from 0800 hours am to 1230 hours and 1330 hours 1700 hours.
“Nomination forms may be obtained from the district office of the Commission at Akatsi or at the Regional office of the Commission at Ho,” the statement stated.
The EC explained that candidates for the election are mandated to provide two recent photographs (bust) with red background on the submission of their nomination forms.
The filing fee for the election is One Thousand Ghana Cedis (GH¢1000.00). All interested individuals and political parties are to take note and act accordingly.
For the Buem constituency, the statement said the Commission will take nominations for the Buem by-election on Tuesday and Wednesday January, 29 and 30 respectively at the district office of the Commission at Jasikan from 0800 hours to 1230 hours and 1330 hours to 1700 hours.
The Commission said nomination forms may be obtained from the district office of the Commission at Jasikan or at the Regional office of the Commission at Ho. Candidates for the election are mandated to provide two recent photographs (bust) with red background on the submission of their nomination forms.
