Even though the New Patriotic Party (NPP) did not win a single Parliamentary seat in the Volta Region during the 2012 general elections, its leadership and supporters in the Akatsi North constituency are allegedly being terrorized by the Police in the area.
According to the fuming NPP supporters, the Volta Regional Police Command has after the 2012 elections embarked on what they termed as needless arrest of their leaders.
In view of this development, NPP supporters in the constituency have vowed to defend themselves if the arrest continued unabated.
In an interview, the Akatsi North NPP Chairman, Mr. Gabriel Awubi complained, “My second vice was arrested at Akatsi and I asked why and I was told by the police that they had orders from Ho, the regional police headquarters that they should bring him; we went there and they told us they were after his son, this thing did not go down well with us.”
Mr. Gabriel wondered how the NPP leadership and its supporters in Akatsi north could be subjected to such trauma even though they lost the Parliamentary election.
He cautioned the police against such acts and challenged them to be neutral in their operations to preserve the area’s peace.
