Akim State College gets computer centre

Akim Oda, July 13, GNA - An 85-million-cedi computer centre stocked with 40 computers for the Akim State College at Akim Oda, was inaugurated on Tuesday with a call on parents to take keen interest in the education of their children.

The Proprietor of the school, Nana Yaw Asare Dzikunu, who made the call advised parents to purchase supplementary books for their wards so that they could study at home.

The cost of the centre was jointly financed from a levy on parents as well as from the school's resources.

Mr Dzikunu expressed concern about the huge indebtedness of some parents to the school in respect of their wards' school fees and urged such parents to take steps to settle their arrears on time.

The Chairman of the Parent Teacher Association (PTA), Mr Samuel Mensah Quaye, advised parents to either pay their wards' fees themselves or use bankers' drafts to pay to prevent their wards from misusing the fees.

He appealed to parents not to hesitate to contact the school authorities whenever they were in doubt of any situation concerning their wards' welfare but not to rely on rumours.

Mr Quaye announced that steps were being taken to withdraw scholarships from students whose academic performances were falling and re-award them to hard working students. 13 July 04
