Partner of law firm, Akufo-Addo, Prempeh & Co, Lawyer Akoto Ampaw who was tipped to be named as Ghana’s first Independent Special Prosecutor has been ‘dumped’ by President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo

News last week went viral that the seasoned lawyer was highly tipped to be named as the Independent Special Prosecutor with lawyer Philip Addison lead Counsel of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) during the 2012 election petition at the Supreme Court as his assistant

But on Thursday at the Flagstaff House, the President instead named former Attorney General and Minister of Justice, Martin A. B. K. Amidu who is also a founding member of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) as the Independent Special Prosecutor.

It is not known why the President dropped the name of human rights campaigner and friend of the media, who was tipped to come into the new job as a fair-minded, but a tough negotiator for the Citizen Vigilante who over the years has been a veritable pain on the neck of businessman, Alfred Agbesie Woyome.

President Akufo-Addo who first hinted of the establishment of the office had promised to appoint someone commands respect of the society and at the same time has an independent mind to make the decisions.
