Akraman gets electricity and school block

Akraman, March 24, GNA - The best means to alleviate poverty in the society is to empower the people through provision of facilities which can facilitate wealth creation, Mr. Robert Quainoo-Arthur, Mfantseman Municipal Chief Executive, has said.

Mr. Quainoo-Arthur said this when he inaugurated a school block and an electricity project at Akraman near Anomabo in the Central Region. The two projects were initiated through the support of Mrs. Theresa Kufuor, the First Lady.

He said it was impossible for the government to put money into individual people's pockets but they could take advantage of facilities such as electricity to generate wealth for themselves. He said Baifikrom headworks, which serves the municipality, was being rehabilitated to increase production from 400,000 gallons to 2.4 million gallons a day and assured that water problem facing the people would belong to history when the project was completed in September. Obirifo Obuesiwua VIII, Twafohene of Anomabo Traditional Area, appealed to the people to send their children to school to ensure a better future.

He also appealed to management of the school feeding programme to include the town in the programme to enable children from the six villages which feed the school to benefit from it. He called for the construction of quarters for teachers who commute from other towns to school daily. 24 March 08
