Akuafo Hall to celebrate its Golden Jubilee

Accra July 1, GNA - Akuafo Hall of the University of Ghana would celebrate its 50th Golden Jubilee in October this year. The Reverend Dr Cephas Omenyo, Hall Master of Akuafo Hall, has, therefore, appealed to its Alumni to support the Hall in order to refurbish it.

Speaking at a meeting to brainstorm on the celebration, he said the Hall, which had housed a number of eminent persons for the past 50 years was in need of refurbishment. Rev. Omenyo said plans were far advanced to embark on some major rehabilitation of "Annex A," of the Hall, saying "we need more funds to complete these works by September this year." He commended the Alumni for undertaking renovation works in some parts of Hall and bathrooms and the beautification projects outside. He said as part of the celebration, the Hall would embark on tree planting exercise, organise lectures and games with other halls among others and hold outreach programmes in some communities.

Mr Alex Banful, President of the Alumni, said he was impressed with prudent management practices undertaken and renovation made at the hall. Mr Banful pointed out that due to the prudent management there was now regular flow of water to the Hall. Akuafo Hall was named after farmers of Ghana in October 1955 in recognition of their contribution towards the funding of the University.
