It started like a joke, targeted at mocking the presidential candidate of the New Patriotic Party, Nana Akufo-Addo; a 72-year-old drinking Kalyppo, a drink meant for kids, they say.

But ever since the picture which was reportedly taken several years ago surfaced in the media, many Ghanaians who are NPP members have rather turned the story around in favour of Akufo-Addo, saying he was promoting Ghana made goods.

Some say it was to show President Mahama that he (Akufo-Addo) is medically fit than the so-called youths who run away from drinks perceived to be lased with sugar.

In a show of solidarity to Akufo-Addo, many sympathisers across Ghana have started taking selfies with Kalyppo drink and posting it on their social media timeline; pictures which have made it to traditional media.

Among those who have capitalised on this unprecedented campaign is Dr. Mahamadu Bawumia, his wife and top echelons of NPP, who as well believe the popularity the drink has gained is as a result of the huge acceptance of the party’s flag bearer, which will eventually translate into victory come December 7.

But the craze for kalyppo selfies seems to have taken an absurd turn as Twitter and Facebook is being bombarded with odd selfies.

GhanaWeb brings you some of the pictures you don’t want to miss in the wake of Akufo-Addo Kalyppo challenge.
