Akufo-Addo On NPP Primaries

Press Statement

The purpose of this statement is to comment briefly on the ongoing constituency primaries of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) to select Parliamentary Candidates for election 2008.

The NPP prides itself as a party with a culture for competition. We believe this spirit of open competition has contributed tremendously to our unity and dynamic growth over the years. A new phase of competition is virtually coming to an end as the constituency primaries to select Parliamentary Candidates for the December Parliamentary elections winds down.

Though some high profile contests have been quite intense, most of the elections have been in line with my admonition at the beginning of the process when I said that I expected the best to win and that in doing so, we would see an exhibition of political strength. No doubt we have not been disappointed. Now that the process is almost over except in a few constituencies, I want to congratulate all winners and assure them of my utmost support. We will work together across the length and breadth of this country to bring a progressive message of hope to Ghanaians. I am pledging that I shall wage a campaign that will feed on the synergies generated at national level as well as constituency level in order to make the most of the progressive superstructure that has been built by the current NPP Government.

Those who were not fortunate enough to win also deserve our congratulations for their valiant performance. By competing, they have demonstrated their worth to the Party and they will be rewarded with new opportunities to contribute to the growth of the Party as I intend to use many of them in the future NPP administration.

Thus I expect them to remain committed and loyal, and to focus on the mission of the NPP to continue to provide good governance, economic viability and social cohesion to the good people of Ghana.

Ghana shall be the winner when NPP wins. I am therefore calling for total unity and oneness of purpose to deliver a resounding victory to the NPP and a crushing defeat of our opponents come December 7, 2008.

Today, Ghanaians look up to our Party as their best hope for a growing, stable, peaceful and a modernizing country. There is no other credible alternative.

I am thus calling on all members of the NPP: the Parliamentary Candidates, the NPP Government, the National, Regional and Constituency executives, the indefatigable foot soldiers, activists, adherents and sympathizers to join me in unity, to wage an effective campaign to win massively this elections to continue to fulfill the aspirations of our people for a better life, quality and affordable health service, quality education and access to quality water supplies.

In unity we can deliver. Thank you.

Signed Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo
