The 2012 presidential candidate of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Nana Akufo-Addo, on Friday, joined Muslims in the Bia West Constituency in the Western Region, for Friday prayers to mark Eid Mubarak.
Muslims across the world are today celebrating Eid which serves as a reminder of the importance of sacrifice and total submission to the will of Allah.
The NPP leader, who is in the Western Region with his hope restoration tour, said in a brief speech, "I've been campaigning in the Western Region since Tuesday and today being your big day I decided to join you for prayers and celebrate with you."
He said, "it is important that we remain united as a people" stressing" our ethnic and religious differences should bind us together even stronger, and not divide us."
He intimated the NPP's commitment to ensuring that people living in zongos are given the necessary support to enhance their standard of living.
Nana Addo said "that is why for the first time in our country's history, If God willing I become president, there will be a Zongo development fund in the budget."
He said the government will work closely with leaders of the various Zongo communities to ensure that the allocated funds are used appropriately to bring prosperity to the people.
Nana Addo also assured them that when the NPP comes back to power, the allowance for Islamic Instructors, which has been scraped by the current NDC administration, will be reintroduced.
He said "all the policies of the NPP, designed to bring prosperity to the Ghanaian people, will be implemented to the fullest in the Zongo communities to make life comfortable for you."
Nana Addo said he believes nothing can be more important than the preparation of our children for the future, and that is why he is proposing to make education free up to senior high school level.
He made a cash donation to help in the celebration, and requested prayers for the nation, the Electoral Commission and himself ahead of the December elections.
On his part, the Chief Imam of Adoafua, Mallam Hussein Yakub thanked Nana Addo for the gesture saying "we have never seen this in our community before, that a presidential candidate will join us for prayers for our Eid celebration."
He hailed Nana Addo's vision of instituting a Zongo development fund to help bring prosperity to all Muslims.
He also prayed Allah's blessings for Nana Addo's vision of providing free quality senior high school education for all.
