Akufo-Addo accepted as NPP flagbearer for election 2020

President Nana Addo Dankwa-Akufo-Addo has been retained to represent the NPP in the December polls this year.

General Secretary of the New Patriotic Party, Mr John Boadu, disclosed that the president was uncontested during the nomination of a flagbearer for the Presidential elections in 6 months’ time.

He told the media after a National Executive Council meeting on the evening of Wednesday, June 3, that the proclamation would be soon be made.

“…the National Council of our party also accepted a report from the national vetting committee, that indicated that at the opening and closing of nomination for presidential candidature of our party, it is only one person Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, the president of Ghana who filed at the end of the closing of nominations.

“So, the National Council have endorsed that decision that Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo is the sole candidate of the New Patriotic Party…” Mr Boadi announced amidst clapping.

The National Council of the NPP on Wednesday met to trash out the details of the outstanding parliamentary primaries in 168 constituencies where it has sitting Members of Parliament (MPs) as well as the issue of the flagbearer and the running mate.

Present at the meeting were President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, Vice President Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, Chairman of the NPP, Mr Freddie Blay, Gen Secretary of the party, John Boadu, among other executives from both the national and regional levels.

In a related development, the NPP set June 20 for to hold Parliamentary Primaries in the 168 Constituencies where the Party has sitting MPs to elect its Parliamentary Candidates for the 2020 general elections.

The NPP has scheduled June 20, 2020, to hold its Parliamentary Primaries in the 168 Constituencies where the Party has sitting MPs to elect its Parliamentary Candidates for the 2020 General Elections.

The Party has also resolved to acclaim the sole candidate who had filed his nomination to contest in the Presidential Primaries, H.E. Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, as the Party’s 2020 Presidential Candidate.

These critical decisions were taken by the party at a National Executive Committee (NEC) and National Council meetings jointly held on Wednesday, June 3, 2020, at the Alisa Hotel in Accra.

The date for the acclamation of the Presidential Candidate and his Running Mate will soon be communicated to the general public. Equally, the Party will soon issue guidelines for the conduct of the Parliamentary Primaries.
