Akufo-Addo appoints Bediatuo Asante as an Ambassador-at-Large

Nana Bediatuo Asante has been Executive Secretary to the President for the past seven years

Nana Bediatuo Asante, the Executive Secretary at the Presidency, has been designated by President Nana Addo-Dankwa Akufo-Addo as Ghana's Ambassador-at-Large.

Bediatuo, who has been serving as President Akufo-Addo's Executive Secretary since 2017, embarks on a new diplomatic mission with this role.

A ceremony held at the Jubilee House on Monday, June 24, 2024, also announced the appointment of other diplomats in addition to Nana Bediatuo.

President Akufo-Addo charged the new envoys with the mission of enhancing Ghana's global standing and safeguarding its interests.

"Your primary responsibility is to promote the image of Ghana as a stable, peaceful, and forward-looking country," President Akufo-Addo stated.

In all, three High Commissioners and five Ambassadors were handed appointment documents.

President Akufo-Addo highlighted the importance of their roles, saying, "Engage with your host nations to foster strong bilateral relationships, attract investments, and advocate for Ghana's interests."

He underscored the significance of their appointments, noting, "Your postings have come at a particularly critical juncture, not only in global affairs but also in our nation's development trajectory."

The newly appointed envoys include Vice Admiral Seth Amoama to Nigeria, Mrs. Francisca Ashietey-Oduntun to South Africa, Mr. Ernest Yaw Amporful to Rwanda, Major General Nicholas Peter Andoh to Türkiye, Mr. Henry Tachie-Menson to Belgium and the EU, Mrs. Charity Gbedawo to Morocco, Ms. Abigail Naa Adzoko Kwashi to Norway, Dr. Robert Afriyie to Ethiopia and the African Union, and Nana Bediatuo Asante as Ambassador-at-Large.

An Ambassador-at-Large is a distinguished envoy tasked with special missions, not confined to a single diplomatic post. The specifics of Bediatuo's new responsibilities remain to be clarified, including whether he will continue in his role as Executive Secretary or if a successor will be named.
