The 2012 presidential candidate of the New Patriotic Party, Nana Akufo-Addo is expected to return home Wednesday from a short trip to the United Kingdom.
Nana Akufo-Addo left Ghana with his wife, Rebecca, on 4th June to the UK for “scheduled engagements including his regular medical checkup”.
His sojourn has been dogged with rumours with some even suggesting that he was dead.
A statement issued by the General Secretary of the NPP, Kwadwo Owusu Afriyie said Nana Akufo-Addo will touch down in Ghana tomorrow, but party supporters have been warned not to troop to the airport to welcome him.
“The leadership of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) will like to urge its teeming supporters not to mass up at the Kotoka International Airport (KIA) tomorrow Wednesday 19th of June 2013 as the 2012 Presidential Candidate, Nana Akufo-Addo returns from a short trip to the United Kingdom.”
According to the statement, “Intelligence gathered shows that it will not be in our interest and to the larger public interest to mass up at the airport to welcome him.”
The party has therefore advised party faithful who wish to show solidarity and welcome Nana Akufo-Addo back to do so at his residence at Nima on Thursday.
“We are grateful to all who have kept faith with us and have shown concern. We are also thankful to the general public for the support and prayers,” the statement added.
