Akufo-Addo behaving like a NUGS candidate - NDC

Lead opposition flagbearer Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has been gripped by fear and panic ahead of the 2016 polls due to the infrastructural projects being undertaken throughout the country by President John Dramani Mahama, Baba Jamal Konneh, Eastern Regional Communications Director of the governing National Democratic Congress (NDC) has said.

Last week, Mr Akufo-Addo was in the Eastern Region as part of his campaign activities ahead of this year’s elections. While in the region, he wondered why the NDC chose ‘E dey be k3k3’ as its slogan, saying it made no sense.

Mr Akufo-Addo, addressing party supporters said: “Mahama says we in the NPP have no message. His message of ‘E dey be k3k3’ is one I will never put before the Ghanaian people. Is ‘E dey be k?k?’ a message? What do you understand by ‘E dey be k3k3’? If this is the kind of message he wants from the NPP, he will never get it.”

He added: “Our message is about bringing jobs to the people of Ghana, reviving our economy, and improving and diversifying our agriculture. That is the business we are coming to do.”

But in a statement released by Mr Konneh, the Eastern Regional NDC noted: “Nana Akufo-Addo, throughout his tour of the Eastern Region behaved like a student who is contesting for NUGS president. He was not bold to mention projects constructed under the erstwhile Kufuor administration because the region was seriously neglected under them [NPP].”

The statement added: “He [Nana Addo] went to Akwatia to hold a mini-rally because of panic reactions due to massive infrastructural developments, both completed and ongoing, under the leadership of President Mahama and Baba Jamal the MP. As usual, Nana Addo and his parliamentary candidate could not tell Akwatiaman what they did for them in their eight-year rule. Not only is the NPP having a bad candidate in Akwatia, but the worst record in the Akwatia constituency”.

“The fear of losing the Asuogyaman, Aburi and Ofoase-Ayirebi seats made him rush to these places, but it's too late for the NPP. The people keep on asking these questions: ‘Why didn't the NPP build a single district hospital in the Eastern Region?’ ‘Why didn’t they put up a single senior high school in the region?’ and ‘Why did Nana Akufo-Addo, during his days as a Member of Parliament and a Cabinet minister, deny the people of Kyebi potable drinking water.”
