Akufo-Addo cannot unite NPP – Ben Ephson

Pollster Ben Ephson, has said flagbearer aspirant of the opposition New Patriotic Party, Nana Akufo-Addo, does not have the capacity to unite the opposition party which has been rocked with internal tiffs in recent times.

According to Ephson, the former attorney general would have helped to maintain peace in the party if he was minded to do so.

The party was mired in a swirl of controversy recently, following violent attacks launched by some of its angry youth supporters against the Chairman and General Secretary at the party’s headquarters in Accra over a few administrative changes.

Although Akufo-Addo was among a host of other party elders who have openly called for calm among members of the party, the Dispatch newspaper editor says he does not possess the magic wand to ensure ultimate peace in the Dankwa-Busia tradition

He believes the party will eventually suffer voter apathy in the 2016 elections if immediate measure are not taken to resolve the internal conflict.

“ If he has the ability to unite the NPP , why doesn’t he do it now? Why is he waiting to be elected the flagbearer before he makes that attempt? If he can unite the party, he should rather do it now so he can even get more votes.

“The truth is that it may be difficult to convince opponent of the other side which you have cursed during the campaign to come and join you win an election” the political watcher told Accra-based Radio XYZ.
