The President of Ghana, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, has condemned an attempt to assassinate Donald Trump, a former President of the United States of America (USA) and the current presidential candidate of the Republican Party for the pending 2024 polls.

In a statement shared on social media, on Monday, July 15, 2024, President Akufo-Addo said the attempt on Trump’s life and other forms of politically-motivated violence should have no space in any democratic dispensation.

Ghana’s president went on to wish the former US president well and prayed for a speedy recovery for him.

“On behalf of the Government and people of Ghana, I condemn in the strongest terms the attempted assassination of President Donald Trump. Such acts of politically-motivated violence have no place in our world, and undermine the principles of democracy and peace that we all hold dear.

“We send our heartfelt best wishes to President Trump and the American people during this difficult time, and we pray for his swift and complete recovery,” parts of Akufo-Addo’s statement read.

An assassination attempt on former President Donald Trump occurred during a rally in Butler, Pennsylvania, on July 13, 2024.

The incident unfolded as Trump was delivering a speech to a large crowd of supporters.

Gunshots rang out, causing panic and chaos. Secret Service agents swiftly moved to shield Trump and escort him off the stage.

Trump was reportedly shot in the ear.

The shooter, who fired from an elevated position outside the venue, was shot dead by Secret Service agents.

Tragically, one bystander was killed, and two others were critically injured during the incident.

Donald Trump was later reported to be "fine" after receiving treatment at a local medical facility.

The FBI is leading the investigation into the attack, which is being treated as an assassination attempt.

The shooter has been tentatively identified as 20-year-old Thomas Matthew Crooks, who fired from a rooftop outside the rally venue. Authorities are working to uncover the motive behind the attack and any potential connections the shooter may have had.
