*AKUFO-ADDO CONDEMNS VIOLENCE*
I have always been opposed to the use of force to resolve political disputes or arguments and condemn it. I have thus consistently advised all members of my staff and sympathisers not to respond violently or in like manner to any provocation, taunts or insults directed against me.
Unfortunately, I have just been informed that, contrary to this advice, an argument between some members of my staff and other persons who, allegedly, persistently and openly, make derogatory and abusive remarks about me at the Greater Accra Regional Office, where they are regular visitors, degenerated into a fight which has resulted in injuries to some people. This is most unfortunate, inexcusable and regrettable. I have visited the injured persons to express my profound regret about it and to reassure them of my personal commitment against violence.
I have suspended the members of my security detail who were allegedly involved in the incident. I have also ordered an investigation into this matter and wish to assure all members of the NPP and the general public that the appropriate sanctions will be meted out.
I hereby call on all members of our party to consider the wider implications of their actions and conduct themselves in a manner which will foster unity and singleness of purpose amongst us. It is my fervent hope and prayer that we all work together to promote peace and harmony within the NPP. May God bless the NPP.
Signed Nana Akufo-Addo
