President Nana Akufo-Addo has formally invited President-elect John Mahama to a meeting at Jubilee House on Wednesday, December 11, 2024 to begin the transition process.
This comes after Jean Mensa, the chair of the Electoral Commission, Jean Mensa announced the results of the 2024 presidential election.
President Akufo-Addo congratulated the president-elect on his "decisive victory" and promised to make sure the transfer of power on January 7, 2025, goes smoothly in a press release from the Presidency.
“I look forward to working with the President-elect and his team to realise this goal,” the President stated, reaffirming his commitment to a peaceful and seamless transfer of power.
The President acknowledged the efforts of the Electoral Commission (EC), led by Mrs. Jean Mensa, and praised the Ghanaian people for their active participation in the democratic process.
“This successful election reflects the enduring strength of Ghana’s democracy,” he remarked.
In a call for unity, President Akufo-Addo urged all citizens to come together to consolidate democracy and uphold the rule of law.
“I call on all Ghanaians to unite and work together to build a stronger, more resilient Ghana,” he said.
The invitation to Jubilee House exemplifies the collaborative spirit emphasized by the President in the press release.
His goal in starting the transition process early is to keep Ghana's standing as an African example of democratic governance intact.
“I remain committed to the principles of good governance and a peaceful transition that will further strengthen Ghana’s reputation as a beacon of democracy in Africa,” he affirmed.
The December 11 conference will provide the groundwork for collaboration between the departing administration and the next government as the transition period commences.
The procedure is crucial to maintaining stability and continuity for the country, according to President Akufo-Addo, who expressed optimism about it.
The President concluded by saying “May God continue to bless our homeland Ghana and make her great and strong.”
