Akufo-Addo endorsements "pure" propaganda - Asabee

A flagbearer aspirant of the opposition New Patriotic Party, Steven Asamoah Boateng, has described as “pure and simple” propaganda the various endorsements of fellow contender, Nana Akufo-Addo by some foreign branches of the party.

About four external branches of the NPP - UK, US and China - have given their backing to the candidature of the party’s two-time presidential candidate ahead of Sunday’s super delegates congress to whittle down the number of aspirants from seven to five.

Although about 800 people are expected to vote come Sunday, only nine will be representing the foreign branches.

Commenting on the development, the former information minister said some people within the Akufo-Addo camp are using the seeming mass endorsement to intimidate the other aspirants out of the race. He believes the move is a strategy to give the former attorney general a head start in the elections.

"I see these endorsements as pure and simple propaganda. That’s how they always start and then eventually the party suffers. They claim he had 98 percent so what. They are trying to scare us but I am not scared at all," Asabee, as he is affectionately called, told Accra-based Asempa FM.

"After all, I am not expected to be first in this election, all I need to is to qualify by making the cut and being part of the five,” he added.
