Akufo-Addo expresses optimism about Ivory Coast

Accra, March 18, GNA - Foreign Minister Nana Addo-Dankwa Akufo-Addo on Monday said current developments in the Ivory Coast, where key political opponents have come together to move the peace process forward, gives much hope for the nation.

Speaking to reporters after attending a meeting of the International Working Group on that country's transition, Nana Akufo-Addo described as ground- breaking the convening of the Cabinet with participation of the protagonists, including the leader of the New Force, Gillaume Soro.

He commended Ivorian Prime Minister Konan Bany for his efforts at building bridges among the various factions.

Representatives of the United States, United Kingdom, United Nations, France, Nigeria, Niger, Ghana, ECOWAS, African Union and the World Bank attended Friday's meeting during which they were briefed by the chairman of the Ivorian Independent Electoral Commission on the progress in the compilation of voters register and the issuance of national identity card.
