Akufo-Addo extends Dr Nsiah Asare’s contract as Director General of GHS

The contract of Dr Anthony Nsiah- Asare, Director General of the Ghana Health Service (GHS) has been extended to 22nd May 2020 by the President, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo – Addo.

In a letter sighted by MyNewsGh.com, signed by the Secretary to the President, Nana Bediatuo Asante and copied to the Vice President, the chief of Staff, the Minister of Health and the Chairperson of the Public Services Commission, Dr. Nsiah Asare is to continue his work for another year starting from 23rd May 2019.

The former Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital, who is a Consultant General Surgeon took over as the Director-General of the Ghana Health Service in March 2017.

Prior to his initial appointment in March 2017, he worked in the health sector spanning over 36 years in senior management position and as a Surgical Specialist at St Patrick Hospital in Offinso-Ashanti and Tamale Teaching Hospital.

Dr. Nsiah-Asare was also a part-time lecturer in Clinical Anatomy at the University of Development Studies (UDS), School of Medical Sciences, Tamale between 1997 and 2001.

Over the last two years since his appointment , he has brought a lot of transformative programmes in the Ghana Health Service notably among them are the Zipline Drone Delivery Service, the world’s first malaria vaccine landmark pilot programme and the creation of a new Health Promotion Division among others.
