The University of Liberia on Wednesday, 13 December, 2017 conferred an Honorary Doctor of Humane Letters Degree Honoris Causa in International Law, on Ghana's president Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo.

Mr Akufo-Addo visited the school as the special guest of honour at the it’s 98th Commencement Exercises.

The university rewarded Nana Akufo-Addo "in recognition of your substantive contribution to strengthening the Rule of Law in Ghana, and also in recognition of your substantive contributions in Liberia’s peace building process, coupled with your invaluable service to the Ghana State over the years, as a veritable patriot."

In May 2016, an Honourary Doctor of Law Degree was conferred on Mr Akufo-Addo, by the University of Fort Hare, Alice, Eastern Cape, South Africa, as part of the University’s centenary celebrations.

The university at that time said its decision to confer the honourary doctorate degree on Nana Akufo-Addo was because “Mr. N A D Akufo-Addo’s legal and political leadership roles, both past and present, significantly contribute to human rights, constitutional democracy as well as socio-economic development as enshrined in the University of Fort Hare’s strategic vision and mission.

“It is in view of this that the University of Fort Hare is honoured to be associated with such a distinguished lawyer and politician.”
