Akufo-Addo has ‘forgotten about’ Dzamefe Commission report

President, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo President, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo

In what was an extraordinary revelation by Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, the President of Ghana claimed he had forgotten about the Dzamefe Commission white paper as he met the press after one year in office.

The Dzamefe Commission produced the white paper after its investigation into Ghana’s participation in the 2014 World Cup and the matters that arose after it.

After several revelations during the three-month-long sitting, the three-member committee brought up several recommendations that seek to resuscitate football in Ghana and bring an end to the alleged corruption at the Ghana Football Association (GFA) and the Ministry of Youth and Sports.

However, according to President Akufo-Addo, the Commission’s recommendations have escaped him although he insisted his Minister of Youth and Sports, Isaac Asiamah, would take the matter up and deal with it accordingly.

“Am I interested in the 2014 white paper? I think that on these matters, the truth is usually the best answer,” the President said.

“To be honest, I have forgotten about the 2014 white paper but I have no doubt that my Minister of Sports is fully up to it and will advise in due course what should be the reaction of me and the government to it. But it has not been something that has been very much on my radar.”

This would be a worrying comment for Ghana football fans and stakeholders who were hoping the president was taking the recommendations seriously as Ghana football needed the revival that the commission promised to give at the inception of it in August 2014.
