The Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) of the South West Municipal Assembly in the Greater Accra Region (GAR), Jerry Akwei Thomson, has observed that the presidential candidate of the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP), Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Adoo, lacks credibility to protect properties belonging to the state, and therefore cannot be trusted with the destiny of the country.
According to him, the NPP’s presidential candidate sold a hotel built by his late father; Edward Akufo-Addo to Societe Generale against the will of her dead mother, Adelaide Akufo-Addo.
He said Nana Addo sold the hotel that was bequeathed to him and his siblings by the late father to SG-SSB against the will of the late mother.
He said the plush hotel named Ring way Hotel was the talk of town in the early 1970s and in those days it was the desire of every young person to visit it.
But today the hotel is no more because Nana Addo sold it for the construction of a headquarters building for SG-SSB bank not far from the former headquarters of the NDC in Accra.
He maintained that the beautiful edifice built by Nana Addo’s father when he retired as the ceremonial President of the country became an amusement point for majority of Ghanaians and served as the place for entertainment for even foreigners.
In the 90s, the name Ringway Hotel was changed to Beat Night club and it offered afternoon jams which was aired live on Accra –based Joy FM until it was sold to the managers of Societe Generale; which happens to be the French agency which Nana Addo –Dankwa Akufo-Addo, as the Attorney-General and Minister of Justice in the John Agyekum Kufour’s administration sold the Ghana National Petroleum Corporation’s drill ship to at the beginning of crude oil exploration in the country.
He said even though it was the wish of the late mother of Akufo-Addo to have the hotel restored to its glory days, the presidential candidate of the NPP who is going round telling the electorate to try him sold the property to SG-SSB against his family wish.
The MCE of Ga South made this comment when he took his turn to address supporters of the governing National Democratic Congress (NDC) at the campaign launch and inauguration of campaign taskforce for Maame Efua Sekyi-Aidoo, the party’s parliamentary candidate for Trobu Constituency over the weekend.
The colourful campaign launch was attended by party big wigs like: Afotey Agbo; the GAR Minister, Kofi Adams, the national campaign coordinator of the party, Joseph Ade –Coker, regional chairman, Nii Lante Vanderpuije, Nii Osah Mills, Sports and Lands and Forestry Ministers respectively.
The rest are: Sedina Attinionu-Tamakloe, MASLOC boss, Jerry Johnson, GAR director of communications of NDC, Francis Nortey of the communications directorate of the party, Amon Kotey, former parliamentary candidate for the area, Alexander Akuoko, parliamentary candidate for Okaikoi South, Abdul Razak Issah, parliamentary candidate for Okaikoi North, Sam Atukweifio, MCE for Ga West, Sophia Akouko, parliamentary candidate for Domeabra –Obom and Daniel Nii Okai Laryea, Member of Parliament for Amassaman.
He added that it was under the watchful eyes of Nana Addo as Attorney-General and later Minister of Foreign Affairs that Ga lands were sold to key members of the NPP at knocked down prices in the history of Ghana.
When Kofi Adams took his turn, he told the supporters that the choice of October 8, as the day of the launch represented a very important day as it the same day the party will pop Champaign after beating NPP in the December 7, polls.
He urged each and every member of the party to adopt the one 168 polling stations in the Constituency and intensify their house to house campaigns.
The Minister for Youth and Sports, Nii Lante Vanderpuije told the Trobu supporters of the party that he had sat in Parliament with the current Member of Parliament for the area on the ticket of the NPP, Moses Anim for three year and every action points to the fact that the MP is ignorant and daft.
He called on the electorate to take a look at Maame Efua’s personality; questioning why they will watch black/ white television when a colour television has been offered by the NDC.
The parliamentary candidate, Maame Efua Sekyi- Aidoo took her turn to admonish the supporters to vote for people they are comfortable with in the December 7, polls and not people will lie because they want power.
