President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has revealed that his promise of creating additional regions is on course and will hold a meeting with members of the Council of State on August 15, 2017 to discuss related developments.
The president, who visited Bibiani Anhwiaso in the Western Region as part of his tour of the region on Monday, August 7, 2017 said that he has received multiple petitions concerning the creation of new districts and he will sought the import of the Council of State members.
“I have gotten petitions for Western North and many other areas in Ghana. On the 29th of June, I informed the Council of State that I have received these petitions. The Council of State has scheduled the 15th of August, we will have a meeting for them to express their views and the little I have heard is good thoughts,” he stated.
“If it is so, we will have a commission of inquiry for Western North for residents to bring their views and then we can have a referendum,” he added.
Mr Akufo-Addo further called on residents to offer him the needed support to achieve the requests of the electorate to promote development in Ghana.
Splitting the Western region was part of the campaign promises of the governing New Patriotic Party (NPP) in the run up to the 2016 polls.
