Trust politicians to throw shades at their opponents on any platform. Certainly, no opportunity slides as “a politician who doesn’t generate controversy is a dull politician, and that is not an interesting politics”. Apologies to President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo!

The most interesting aspect is when the comment comes with a sense of humor which even gets the opponent laughing.

President Akufo-Addo delivering a speech at a durbar organised at the Ngleshie Alata Traditional Area, Jamestown in honor of him and the First Lady amused the gathering with an innuendo to the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) when an umbrella which provided shade for him fell on his head.

“Cooperate with me and my government towards the progress [umbrella falls]. This is what happens when you have an umbrella. It’s never steady,” he said with a broad smile on his face.

NDC, a social democratic political party, has an umbrella with the head of a dove at the tip as its symbol with red, white, green, and black as colors.

The President of the Ngleshie Alata Traditional Council, Oblempong Nii Kojo Ababio, together with the Chiefs and people of Jamestown, enstooled the first gentleman of the land as a Chief in Jamestown.

He was given the stool name “Nii Kwaku Ablade Okogyeaman I”, to wit “Royal Warrior; One who fights to redeem his people”.

President Akufo-Addo pledged his commitment to making Accra the cleanest city on the African continent within the next four years.
