Akufo-Addo must go unopposed if… - Wontumi advises NPP

Ashanti regional chairman of the NPP has made a clarion call on the party’s prospective flagbearer aspirants in the next delegates’ congress to back down on their decision, once Nana Akufo-Addo declares his intention to contest again.

Many party supporters have demanded the 2008 and 2012 flagbearer of the party, Nana Akufo-Addo, makes a pronouncement on his political future after six months of shying away from the political limelight since the court turned down his petition to have the 2012 presidential election overturned.

To avoid experiencing a repeat of bitter defeat suffered by the party in 2008 and 2012 respectively, Mr. Antwi Boasiako, popularly known as Wontumi, has also appealed to every single member of the party to support the presidential ambition of Nana Akufo-Addo.

According to him, this would ensure unity within the party and strengthen it for the 2016 general elections. He added that it would be extremely difficult for any political party to win elections without unity.

“I will kindly call on Mr. Kyeremanten and the other aspirants to abandon their decision for now and rally behind Nana Akufo-Addo should he declare on the 20th of March that he would contest again”, Mr Boasiako appealed.

Immediately such an awesome decision is taken by the various aspirants, it would send the NDC panicking and open the door for the NPP to win the election decisively with a united front, he said.

In an interview on Okay FM, Mr. Antwi Boasiako also called on senior members of the party to spearhead the call for unity if they wish to see the party in power in 2016.

“As a Regional Chairman, I would urge all party members who wish to contest Nana Akufo-Addo to rescind that decision in the interest of the party and support him. This is the time for us to change our style a bit if we want to come to power,” he said.
