Former President John Dramani Mahama has accused President Akufo Addo of failing to give his administration credit for some of the projects it initiated and currently being commissioned.

Addressing supporters of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) in the Volta Region at the last edition of the party’s Unity Walks, on Saturday he described the President’s action as petty.

“Our opponents who accused us of photoshopped projects today are going round and commissioning those projects they described as photoshopped projects. But you know the most shocking, they are also cutting sod again on projects we’d cut sod for already. Kumasi Airport phase 2, we got the loan $65,000 we sent it to Parliament and Parliament approved it and on December 5, 2016, I was asked to go and cut the sod for the Kumasi Airport phase 2. Then you come back and cut the same sod, same contractor, same money, same site, that project would have been finished by next year, what a waste of national resource.”

The Minority in Parliament on Thursday expressed shock at the decision by President Akufo-Addo to cut sod for the phase two of the Kumasi International Airport despite the fact that it was done by the Mahama administration.

According to the Minority, in a statement said “We note that the same contractor with whom an agreement was entered in 2016 to execute the project has been retained for the project. We find it inexplicable, therefore, that the President would waste scarce national resources only to perform a ceremony that has already been undertaken by his processor.

“This sort of conduct smacks of desperation and are symptomatic of a government that has nothing to show for the billions of Ghana Cedis it has borrowed since January 2017.

“The Minority caucus in Parliament deplores this level of populism and shallow opportunism through which the Akufo Addo government seeks to take undue credit for the work of others”.
