The New Patriotic Party says it would not be daunted by comments of Dr. Mensah Otabil that education can never be free.
According to the NPP, inasmuch as it welcomes all shades of opinion on the debate on free SHS education, Nana Akufo Addo remains determined to ensure that his promise becomes a reality when elected President in the December polls.
The comments of the NPP come after the General Overseer of the International Central Gospel Church said "education can never be free".
He also stated that he doesn’t believe in free education. Dr. Mensa Otabil told his congregation in Accra on Sunday that there’s no such thing as free education.
Main opposition Flagbearer Nana Akufo Addo has made free Senior High School education the center-stage of his presidential campaign.
Other Presidential Candidates such as the CPP’s Dr Abu Sakara Forster and the PPP’s Dr Paa Kwesi Nduom have also made similar promises.
But Dr Mensa Otabil said such free education promises are deceptive.
However, a member of NPP’s communication Directorate, John Boadu in an interview with XYZ News said inasmuch as the party welcomes all shades of opinion on the debate, Nana Akufo Addo remains dauntless with his promise.
“We believe that no citizen in our country should be denied access to education as a result of lack of money or non-availability on infrastructure” John Boadu said.
Mr. Boadu added “others are saying that it should be done in twenty years time; others are saying it isn’t possible, others are also saying we should do it now and not later.
“So I think that it is all good for people to bring out their ideas including Pastor Otabil, we welcome it but we believe that it is possible and we would do it”.
