Ho, May 14, GNA- Nana Addo-Dankwa Akufo Addo, the presidential candidate of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), on Tuesday said his government would build a state university in the Volta Region. He said it was just not right that a region like the Volta could not boast of a state university and said his government would make it happen.
Nana Akufo Addo made the pledge when he addressed members of the Tertiary Education Students Confederation (TESCON) of the NPP from the Ho Nurses Training School and the Ho Polytechnic as part of his campaign tour of the Volta region.
He said his government would expand educational opportunities throughout the country irrespective of political, ethnic and religious affiliations.
Nana Akufo Addo said his government would follow-up on the foundations of the Kufuor Government by using expected revenue from the crude oil sector to scale up the capitation grant, the school feeding programme and improve infrastructure in the health and educational sectors.
He said the political atmosphere in the region is" good" for the NPP's victory in December and urged members of the party in the area to help close the political divide between the region and the party, which had in the past been a strong ally of the Danquah-Busia tradition. Nana Akufo Addo urged the youth to be prepared to take advantage of the "new Ghana" and develop themselves.
Among the campaign team was Mr Allan John Kwadwo Kyeremateng runner up to Nana Akufo Addo in the party's presidential contest, and Mr Boakye Agyarko another contestant of the Party's presidential slot. Mr Jones Pekyi, President of the Ho Polytechnic branch of TESCON asked the NPP to have faith in the confederation and that it was turning the fortunes of the Party in the region.
