Nana Yaw Sarpong, a leading member of the New Patriotic Party(NPP) UK Branch has rejected claims by some elements in the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC) that the NPP flagbearer, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo failed to raise substantial funds at a recent fundraising programme held in the UK.
On the contrary, he said the fundraising was oversubscribed more than what some people in the NDC have alleged to have been the case, although he wouldn’t quote any figure.
A lawmaker for the La Dadekotopon constituency, Nii Amasah Namoale recently alleged that the NPP leader, Akufo-Addo was disappointed when he took over the podium to raise funds for the party in the UK.
He said the programme lacked the necessary support as a paltry sum of £ 5,200 was mobilized from the programme, a situation he says is testament of the fact that the party is losing popularity.
Reacting to the claims by the NDC MP on Anopa Kasapa on Kasapa 102.3 FM Thursday, Nana Yaw Sarpong described the allegations as untrue.
“I think we need to be very serious as a country. Nii Amassa Namoale is a lawmaker, and so I expect that before he comes out with any information he might have done the necessary background checks and research. This is what makes us sometimes get some of these mediocre kind of comments.”
“We had a high turnout for that programme with a massive support, and there was the demand that we repeat such programme again.”
