Akufo-Addo running Ghana aground; Kwakye Ofosu charges Ghanaians to rise

President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo

Former Deputy Communications Minister, Felix Kwakye Ofosu has condemned President Akufo-Addo’s “frivolous” staff at the Jubilee House, and wants Ghanaians to rise up before it would be too late.

Commenting on the list of 998 staff released by President Akufo-Addo as workers at the seat of government on 3FM’s News Hour Friday, Kwakye Ofosu minced no words calling the list “totally outrageous, totally unjustifiable”.

“In all honesty, the president has done a terrible deed by appointing all these number of people. He is deliberately wasting taxpayers’ money, and all of us as Ghanaians must rise up and question his conduct, and not allow him to run this country aground before we express regret at a later date, when it would be too late.”

The former deputy minister accused the president of constituting a government full of family and friends.

“This is the president who appears only interested in enhancing the fortunes of his relatives, family and friends and members of the NPP. It appears to me that the victory that he chalked in 2016 was a personal triumph to do what he pleases as president; it was never about the people, otherwise he would not be conducting himself like he is doing,” Kwakye Ofosu commented.

In his assessment, the 998 in addition to the over 100 ministers and deputies appointed last year, shows that President Akufo-Addo “has no respect for the people of this country”.

He was amused that the NPP government whilst in opposition criticised the 678 presidential staffers and civil staffers under former President Mahama, but has failed to maintain the number if it cannot reduce it.

He said the government is dissipating the taxpayers money “for greater comfort of NPP who are not adding any significant improvement in the lives of Ghanaians”.

kwakye Ofosu was also shocked by a secretariat established at the presidency for the construction of a national cathedral headed by Dr Paul Opoku Mensah, when the cathedral he said would be built by the private sector.

“This is a man willing to dissipate the resources of our people with reckless abundance,” he asserted, “Akufo-Addo and NPP are hypocritical”.

He also wondered if Ghana runs a monarch to have a lady-in-waiting among the list of staffers.
