Former deputy attorney general under the erstwhile Mahama administration Dr. Dominic Ayine has expressed fears the yet-to-be appointed special prosecutor will witch-hunt members of the former NDC government.

In his view, the intended anti-graft body will not have the needed independence to fight corruption as is being touted by the NPP government.

President Akufo-Addo during the 2016 electioneering promised to set up the office of the Special prosecutor as part of his strategies in fighting corruption, which appears endemic in Ghana.

StarrFMonline.com sources say respected lawyer Akoto Ampaw has been penciled for the job by the President.

Speaking on the floor of Parliament Wednesday, the Bolga East MP said members of the NDC will be the primary target of the Special prosecutor.

“The establishment of the office of the Special Prosecutor in common law jurisdiction has always been based upon one important consideration; that is conflict of interest.

In our situation where I am very certain and we on this side can predict with almost mathematical certainty, that the office of the special prosecutor will be aiming at prosecuting former ministers and appointees of the former government; wherein lies the conflict of interest? Mr. Speaker,” he wondered.
