The aide to former President John Mahama, Mrs Joyce Bawa Mogtari says President Akufo-Addo’s deep involvement with vigilante groups is making him powerless in clamping down on their activities.
She says the President’s loud silence on the activities of the vigilante groups has demonstrated his support for the thuggery and violence they (vigilante groups) visit on innocent Ghanaians.
She was speaking on the Gold Power Drive with Samuel Eshun.
There have been over 20 pro-NPP vigilante attacks since the NPP won power in the December 2016 elections even though the President has promised on several occasions to arrest the development.
The situation has been festering despite calls on the President for the law enforcement agencies to act.
The President recently suspended the Upper West regional Minister following reports of political vigilantism in the region.
The Minister, Sulemana Alhassan was alleged to have instructed the release of some NPP thugs who were arrested after they attacked some officers of the Upper West National Disaster Management Organisation (NADMO).
But this effort by the President is not enough according to Mrs. Bawa Mogtari.
She wants the President to give the constitutionally mandated security agencies the freedom to deal with those vigilante groups.
