A political science lecturer at the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) , Kwesi Amakye Boateng is of the view that the size of President Nana Akufo-Addo’s government is overly bloated.
He indicates the higher numbers have been admitted by government adding that it will increase the overhead cost of running the state considering salaries and other remuneration for his appointees.
“I said it earlier that the ministries are too many which is why we have so many ministers and invariably, this will have an effect on the running cost of the state. The state as it stands will spend a lot on each minister compared to the advanced economies where the country goes to seek aid”, he stated.
Taking into account the vision of President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo to distinguish himself from other leaders, he believes he is creating the ministries and will ensure that they work to merit the reason for which they were appointed.
According to him, some of them will be working from the presidency under his direct supervision to ensure that plans he unveiled for the country succeeds.
“Some of the appointees will be working from the presidency and under his direct supervision. The onus now lies on these appointees to work and change the fortunes of the country and ensure that their engagement is not a drain to the coffers of the state. It is only when this is done, many will overlook the numbers because they are bringing in value”, he stated.
