Businessman and founder of the defunct UT Bank and UT Holdings, Prince Kofi Amoabeng has asserted that the menace of corruption has worsened under the Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo government.

According to Kofi Amoabeng, a retired captain of the Ghana Armed Forces, rather than fighting corruption, the government has been encouraging it.

The businessman, who made these remarks in an interview on TV3 on September 11, 2024, indicated that the president should be seeing the level of corruption in his government because people who had nothing have suddenly become super rich.

“... you see, they know themselves as in the president and his people. And you must see that these guys’ level of spending and the whole demeanour of the person and the asset he is controlling is way, way, way beyond its means and impossible.

“Won't you ask me a question and say my brother it has become too much. The president must see it. So actually they are encouraging corruption because you see, people who had nothing, have never ever worked before and all of a sudden, they have all the cars and all the properties. People say they have bank accounts and they are travelling all over the place. They don't have a job to their name. So, you think they are fighting corruption? No, no,” he said.

Kofi Amoabeng also reiterated his support for former President John Dramani Mahama, the flagbearer of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) in the pending December 7, 2024, presidential election.

He indicated that Mahama, in his view, would be a better president because of his experience.
