Former Deputy Minister of Employment and Labour Relations, Baba Jamal has warned that President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo may one day be auctioned by some members of government in an attempt to raise money for themselves if care is not taken.

He observes that conduct of some of the appointees following the controversial Ghana Millennium Excellence Awards ceremony where Chief Executives Officers (CEO) of expatriate companies were alleged to have been asked to pay $100,000 to sit on the same dinner table with him is indicative of the fact he could be auctioned in the same vein without his knowledge.

The Ministry of Information in a statement reacting to the allegations claimed that the Trade and Industry Minister, Alan Kwadwo Kyeremanten did no wrong in taking part in the organization of the event that has generated public furor.

“Following public debate on the alleged extortion of money from the expatriate business community for a seal at the Presidential table at the Ghana Expatriate Business Awards (GEBA) the president in a letter dated 20th December 2017 and issued through the chief of staff, asked the Minister for Trade to answer to that”.

“The Minister for Trade has since responded to the President query and the facts, as reported to the president, do not disclose any wrong doing on the part of the minister of any government official”

But the former Akwatia lawmaker who was contributing to the matter on Adom TV indicated that the earlier such acts are discouraged the better for the image of the country insisting that some there is the likelihood someone could auction the number one gentleman of the state in view of the fact, he said he was not aware of the $100,000.

“It will soon get to a point where Nana Addo will soon be placed in a glass and would be paraded just to beg for money from innocent people because we have realized that is the plan of the NPP. Nana Addo will now be used for a road show. It’s unfortunate and does not speak well for our democracy” he said.
