The Ghana Centre for Democratic Development (CDD Ghana) has revealed that, the president; Nana Akufo-Addo vindicated their choice by naming Martin Amidu to be Special Prosecutor in Ghana.

This revelation comes immediately after the President Nana Akufo-Addo appointed former Attorney General and Minister of Justice, Martin Alamisi Burnes Kaiser Amidu of the opposition National Democratic Party (NDC) as Special Prosecutor.

Senior Programmes Officer, Mr. Paul Aborampa Mensah indicated the president’s appointment is in line with the CDD Ghana’s recent submissions made to the office of the president on who should be Special Prosecutor.

He said the CDD Ghana was not specific in their submissions however, they suggested an independent body to head that office.

“…When the bill was before parliament we as CDD Ghana sent our submissions, even though we didn’t specify, we outlined our criteria and suggested who should be special prosecutor. We think Mr. Martin Amidu met the criteria and we are happy the president mentioned his name”. He said in an interview on Peace News.

Mr. Aborampa was optimistic there is no doubt Mr. Amidu won’t excel in that office because he [Marin Amidu’s] spirit on the fight against corruption has over the years been exceptionally different.

He congratulated Mr. Amidu on his new appointment and thanked Nana Akufo-Addo for the avoidance of political colours to name a member of the NDC to head the office of the special prosecutor.
