The First Deputy Minority Whip, Ahmed Ibrahim, has lashed out at the President Akufo-Addo administration for introducing the Comprehensive Sexuality Education (CSE) which he termed as ‘Gays and Lesbians’ curriculum into the country’s basic school curriculum.
According to the National Democratic Congress (NDC) Member of Parliament (MP) for Banda constituency, the introduction of the ‘Gays and Lesbians’ curriculum into the basic school is a clear indication that President Akufo-Addo wants to bring the high morals in the Ghanaian society down.
The ‘Gay and Lesbians’ curriculum, he noted, must be withdrawn with immediate effect, urging the Ghanaian society and its religious leaders; the Catholic Bishop Conference; the Pentecostal Executive Council; the Charismatic and Pentecostal Council among others; to wake up, stand firm and be bold to tell the government under the leadership of President Akufo-Addo to back off with its plans.
“There is a comprehensive strategy the government wants to embark to bring moral education down and impose some foreign culture on our people. When Moses Foh-Amoaning came out to say that he is forming a coalition to speak against gays and lesbians rights in Ghana, within the shortest possible time, the American Ambassador came out to say emphatically that within 10 years, there will be homosexuality and lesbianism legalization in Ghana. The UN cannot push us to where we don’t want to go”, he noted.
Hon. Ahmed Ibrahim made these observation when interacting with Accra-based Okay FM, as monitored by Kasapafmonline.com on Monday, September 30, 2019, on the introduction of the Comprehensive Sexuality Education (CSE) into the basic school curriculum by the Ghana Education Service (GES).
The CSE is expected to be implemented in next term. The goal of this new subject is to equip school children with age and cultural appropriate information to explore and nurture positive values and attitudes towards their sexual and reproductive health and to develop self-esteem, respect for human rights and gender equality.
If further seeks to help students to make informed decisions about their health, with emphasis on Ghanaian cultural values and norms.
However, the CSE has been welcomed with a public uproar with majority of the population speaking against its implementation with the fear that it is clothed with Lesbians, Gays, Bisexual and Transgender (LGBT) agenda.
Hon. Ahmed Ibrahim speaking further on the issue said in 2005, the New Patriotic Party (NPP) under the leadership of John Agyekum Kufuor withdrew Religious and Moral Education from the basic school curriculum and it took the intervention of the various religious for it to be re-introduced.
He said the fight against the immediate withdrawal of the CSE should not rest solely on the shoulders of politicians as it has the tendency to disrupt the beautiful Ghanaian culture by imposing on the people certain norms that are foreign.
“I am telling you on authority that if we don’t rise and speak against this Comprehensive Sexuality Education for the government to halt its implementation, we are all at risk”, he noted.
He added “If Ghana sits down for this to penetrate, within the shortest possible time, they (referring to the West) will spread it across the African continent like wild fire. So, the Catholic Bishop Conference, the Pentecostal Executive Council, the Charismatic and Pentecostal Church, our traditional leaders and Islamic Religious leadership – we shouldn’t sit down unconcerned for this to happen to Ghana”.
