President Nana Akufo-Addo is expected to speak on the controversial Ghana-US defence cooperation agreement within this week, Editor-in-Chief of the New Crusading Guide Abdul Malik Kweku Baako Jnr has revealed.

According to Mr Baako, President Akufo-Addo has finally decided speak on the issue in order to put the matter to rest and he [Akufo-Addo] has selected this week to do so.

"There is this talk that the President must speak. Last week the President took a decision to speak on the matter this week. Let’s hear him and when we do, we have more to discuss,” he disclosed on Asempa FM's Ekosii Sen on Tuesday.

The veteran journalist was made the revelation while reacting to NDC MP for North Tongu, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa's recent call for government to renegotiate the Ghana-US defence cooperation agreement that has received widespread criticism from the public.

In an open letter, Mr. Ablakwa said the President’s silence on the matter was unlike him as he is known to be very vocal.

"The high-handed and dramatic arrest of Koku Anyidoho and the change of name of the Flagstaff House to Jubilee House have so far not worked according to plan as the government tries to divert attention from the matter," the North Tongu MP stated.

But Mr Baako expressed optimism that the matter [US military deal] will be put to rest after President Akufo-Addo's address.
